It's always a challenge to recreate an outside space indoors. Building a beach for this show was a long process, despite its structural simplicity. The structure of the set - pre-decoration - is shown on the left.
The biggest challenge was weathering the lumber to create a sea salt and wind worn look. Treating the material was a 5 step process including multiple stains, paint, polyearthane glaze, and sanding the surface to create wear.
We were able to get some old wood - a telephone pole taken down after a storm - and used it to create a collection of wooden collumns emerging from the ocean.
